Saved by the Bell

Well today was the first official day for students to move in to their dorms.  It was exciting to help out and meet the new students.  It made me think of four years ago when I was a freshman in college.  My very first class was my Intro. to Education class at Carl Sandburg College.  Wow!  That was such a fun class to go to.  I hated not being in that class and I took a lot from that class.  Now I am about to begin my student teaching semester.  This is what I have waited for since the 5th grade.  So 12 years of waiting, and it is finally about to happen!

I remember one year at Beulah church camp, listening to a sermon about finding a calling.  It was then that I realized then that it was God's plan for me to work with children.  Becoming a teacher wasn't just about being what I wanted to be it was about being what God wanted me to be.  I am so nervous about my student teaching experience.  I am not just observing and helping in the classroom, I will eventually be running the classroom.  I know God will help me accomplish this as long as I keep putting my faith in Him.  He has helped me along thus far and I have no doubt that he will continue to do so.

Every time I step into a school, I become filled with excitement and relief knowing that this is what I am supposed to be doing.  I encourage everyone to focus on finding your calling.  It is an amazing feeling to know that you are on the correct path.  Thanks for reading my blog and don't forget to spread the Jesus!

Cath Me If You Can

Ok so...if you have been paying attention to my blog or my Facebook account, then you know that I have not fully caught up on my blogs.  Well this is just not cool!  So...I have decided to not post individual blogs for each day that I have missed but to give you the diet version of each day and the God moment I witnessed.  This does take a toll to my pride but I think that in doing this, I will no longer be in a slump about my blog and will then feel the urge to get on each night and post my blog for the day!  So here it goes...

Thursday, August 11th:  I came to Carbondale from a brief visit home.  On my way back I got to visit one of my favorite people ever...Taylor DANGER Likes!  He and I became instant friends this summer while working at camp together.  I was a counselor and he was the worship leader and photographer.  I helped him lead worship everyday and night at camp and am eternally grateful to him for letting me do that.  Anyway...the day we met was interesting.  I had just came to camp to start work after everyone had a month of training and time to get to know each other and Taylor drives up to camp and begins to unpack.  We make our introductions and then like 15mins later I told him that I had a surprise for him in my trunk.  "Should I be scared?" he said.  "Don't worry you will love it...it's not a dead body."  I open my trunk to a treasure cove of Ski, a soda that is popular to us.  He had one of those reactions that you would find on Extreme Makeover when the epic reveal has been made.  This and our strange personalities brought us together as friends and brothers in Christ.  We have known each other for only a short time and we have been able to talk to each other about everything.  It is such a gift from God to be given friends like Taylor.  So when I got the chance to visit him and spend time with him, I considered it a true blessing.

Friday, August 12th:  On this night a handful of us Wesley Foundation leaders came together for a leadership retreat at the Wesley Foundation.  At this retreat we made plans and goals and prepared the building for the upcoming school year.  If the Wesley Foundation is not a daily God moment for me then I don't know what is.  I love this building.  It is a home away from home and every time I walk in I feel God's presence and I feel His love from the people that attend there with me (even though we still butt heads....a lot).  I had an awesome time catching up with friends, and getting ready for the school year to start!

Saturday, August 13th - Sunday, August 14th:  These days made it hard to write a blog because I was unable to witness a God moment that made me stop and think.  This comes to show that sometimes it is hard to find God in our daily lives.  Sometimes we have to work extra hard and meet him halfway.  So in the end I did get my God moment by not finding one.  Funny how God works!

Monday, August 14th:  So this would have been last night.  Wow, was it a busy and fun night.  I had my first College of Education and Human Services Student Leaders meeting of the year and it was fun to see old friends and meet new ones and gather to plan and organize activities for the semester.  After this meeting, I came to my apartment where I recruited my friend's Bobby, Emily, Bethey, and Bridget to help me finish labeling postcards to send out for Wesley events.  We gathered in my living room  and labeled thousands of postcards and watched Power Rangers of course!  This was so much fun to get all that work done and have fun while doing it.  I wish all work was that much fun!  But it was a God moment because originally, it was only going to be Bobby and myself doing this work until I heard from Emily and managed to get her to come over and bring friends!  God showed himself in the willingness of my friends to come help me with a task that I took upon myself to accomplish.

Tuesday, August 15:  Well, today was a busy day of cutting more postcards and labeling them for Wesley.  At the end of the day, however, I got to oversee the practice of another campus ministry's praise band.  I love these guys.  They are so much fun to be with and hang out with.  I saw God in their passion for music which made me so happy because music is a huge passion of mine as well.  Afterwards, a couple of them came to my apartment where we watched hilarious and ridiculous YouTube videos and discussed super heroes.  It was an awesome night!

Thanks for putting up with this lengthy post.  I wish that I was able to keep up with my posts but with all the traveling I have been doing, it has made it hard but God has given me the motivation and the determination to catch myself up.  Y'all are awesome for reading this blog.  I hope you are all enjoying my God moments and that they are helping you find God in your everyday lives as well.  I would love to hear what you have to say, so please leave me a comment on my blog to let me know what you think or if you would like to share a story as well please do, I'm always willing to listen.  Thanks again and don't forget to spread the Jesus!

Help!

Sarah, Ashley, and I went and saw The Help on Wednesday.  It was an AMAZING movie.  I do not want to spoil it for anybody, but if you have the chance to see it you must.  I love movies and I find myself always watching for a deeper meaning sometimes.  It makes the movie worthwhile to me.  This movie's message was an inspiring one.  It was about equality, family, and doing the right thing even if it could cost you your life.

This movie made me tear up a few times (if you know me then you shouldn't be surprised).  It was full of emotion and drama.  I was able to see God in the eyes of the characters, and in the message of the movie.  It was beautifully done, and if you go see it, you will understand this too.

Thanks for reading this blog.  Don't forget to spread the Jesus!

Happy Birthday Sarah!!!

Tuesday was Sarah's 21st birthday.  We celebrated by going swimming at the Galesburg Community Pool and then going to dinner in Peoria at Olive Garden.  We even took a little trip to the riverfront for some awesome picture taking moments.  As I mentioned in a previous blog, I see God in my friends all the time.  That night was no exception.  We had an absolute blast just enjoying each others company.

God has given us each a day to celebrate the time when we were brought into this world that he created for us.  I know we like to think that the day is all about us, but in all actuality, we should be spending it thanking him for giving us each breath we take and for granting us life on Earth.  It is very easy to lose focus sometimes, but you have to have faith and know that everything you have you have because of Him.

Thanks for reading this blog even though it was a little shorter than some.  Don't forget to spread the Jesus.

Nature Walk

So Monday, on my way home I had the chance to stop in Clinton, IL to visit my good buddy Hunter.  He and I worked together at camp this summer and became "brochas" over time.  We took me to eat at this little cafe style place along the lake shore, and then proceeded to lead me to a trail around the lake.  On this walk, we were able to enjoy God's creation in nature.  We spent the trail catching up on the stuff we have been up to we since we both left camp.

We went back to his house after the trail and I met his family and they invited me to dinner.  They were a fun family to be with and to talk with.  I could see and feel God in this household.  The love that each of them had for each other was truly inspiring.  I am truly grateful for them to allow me into their home and lives for dinner and discussion.

We are all part of God's family.  He shows us unconditional love each and every moment of each and everyday.  When we are young, we love him back.  When we are older we come to love him even more.  In between we are like "teenage" Christians.  We think we know everything and that we don't always need him.  This is far from true.  Unfortunately, it takes us a long time to actually realize this and to act upon it.  My challenge is that everyone work on leaving their Christian adolescence and grow to love God with the same unconditional love that he shows us.

Thanks again for reading my blog.  I hope that you all were able to find some relation in these words to your lives.  Thanks again and don't forget to spread the Jesus!

GOD BLESS!

Me and My Gang

So last Sunday, I was preparing to make yet another trip to visit my hometown of Maquon, IL.  I was going to go celebrate my friend Sarah's 21st birthday!!!  As I was packing and preparing for the drive, I began to think about my friends and how much I see God in them.  There are four of us that form "The Gang".  There is myself, Ashley, Sarah, and Evan.  All of us are different...very different, and yet we still found what it takes to become the best friends that anyone could ever have.

You already know about me so I am going to talk about the other three.  First there is Ashley.  She was a 2007 graduate with me.  Her and I never interacted much during school, we rolled in different circles.  She was always nice when it mattered but other than that, she hung out with girls who were not always the nicest to me.  When her and I began to hang out towards the very end of our senior year, all of a sudden none of that mattered anymore and we have since become best friends, even though we still argue and get on each others nerves sometimes.

Sarah and I became friends earlier in high school.  I think it was my junior year, her sophomore year, we took P.E. together.  Everyday we had to run laps around the gym for an allotted amount of time.  Since we got to go at our own pace, Sarah and I would jog together and just talk.  We always had fun during our talks.  When we began to hang out towards the end of my senior year, her and I clicked.  We both have very outgoing personalities and we know how to have fun (especially when it comes to riding giant rocking horses :-D ).  She has become one of my dearest friends.  We have realized that we both can become mad at each other but we love each other so much that given time, we come to terms and move on.

Evan is my best friend.  He was a freshman my senior year.  I ended up sitting at the same table as him at lunch during that school year.  Evan was not like the other guys in his class.  He had a level of maturity that surpassed each of them combined.  He was always fun to talk to and during our spring play I "passed the torch" to him.  Even though we talked at lunch and during play practice we never hung out much otherwise.  Once we did we became best friends.  We are two very different guys.  He is sports and manual labor, and I am arts and relaxing.  We have a lot of conflicts of personality, but that does not and will not ever come between the friendship that we have.

You see all of us are Christians.  We all love God.  We hang out as often as we can, but we don't need drugs and alcohol to have a good time.  Give us a cheesy board game or video game that claims to know whether you are telling the truth or not and we will find a way to have fun.  God can be seen in each and every one of these three individuals.  I believe that this is why we have become still friends, and that is why we will remain friends until we are old and have retired to finish our days in our future summer home...Haha!

Thanks once again for reading my blog.  I pray that you and your friends can form this special bond as well.  Thanks again, and don't forget to spread the Jesus!

GOD BLESS!

My Girl

So it was the day after the wedding and my girlfriend and I have to drive all the way from Rockford, IL to Collinsville, IL then I had to go to Carbondale, IL all in one day.  It was tiring but it was also a great moment for our relationship.  Phoebe and I were able to talk a lot about ourselves and where we wanna go in life and with each other.  I know her and I have only been together for about a month, but we have had serious discussions, such as what our kids' names would be like, what our wedding would be like, how do we want our future to be.  It is awesome to have these discussions with her because it reinforces my feelings for her.  We see eye to on ALMOST everything.  It was very special to me.

Phoebe is going to school to major in Ministry Studies.  I met her while working at camp this summer.  We had the honor of working together a couple weeks and here and there throughout the other weeks.  I see God in her all the time.  She is one of the nicest people I know, always willing to lend a helping hand.  She loves God so much and is great with the kids.  My favorite thing about her is that I can be myself with her and I mean the good, the bad, and the ugly things about me, she is accepting of it all.  That is truly awesome.  We may have our little disagreements but in the end we know that we care for each other and that we can trust each other to be safe and make smart decisions.

To me it is very important to be in a godly relationship.  All of the arguments some couples have big or small could be avoided if you have a good relationship with each other.  To me, the Bible says that we must get to know our partner in order to truly become one flesh.  My recommendation to everyone is to get to know who you are with on a deep level, only then will you have a relationship that will last through the ages.  Thanks for reading my blog and don't forget to spread the Jesus!

Can you Feel the Love Tonight?

Today was a beautiful day full of love.  Two of my best friends, Patrick Waldrop and Dani Frank, got hitched today.  It was an extremely beautiful outdoor wedding in a garden.  It was so nice to be in an environment full of friends that mean the world to me and seeing so much happiness and love.  These two have been major supports in my walk of faith.  Both have shown me true friendship and have been available to talk about any problems I may have been having at that time.  God has filled these two so much and it is very easy to see.  I wish them all the happiness in the world.

Tonight was also a great night for my girlfriend, Phoebe, and I.  We were able to spend time together since we don't live that close to each other.  We also shared our first kiss.  I have never been so nervous about a kiss  before in my life.  It was beautiful (although I almost poked her in the eye while moving her hair).  God was definitely present tonight in every couple there and in every friend of a friend and the love they have for each other.

My challenge to you is to take time to appreciate your loved ones.  Whether they be a friend or family, take the time to tell them you love them and that you care for them.  Well I would like to write more about the love and beauty that went on tonight, but I have to drive back to Carbondale tomorrow.  So I am going to go to sleep.  Thanks for reading as always and don't forget to spread the Jesus.

God: King of the Road

So today I drove from Carbondale to Rockford.  Essentially I drove through all of Illinois.  It was a long and flat drive.  Nevertheless, God showed himself to me.  Have you ever seen the sun shine through the clouds to where you could legitimately see the rays shining through the clouds to the ground. When I was young I used to think that was how angels traveled to the Earth.  HAHA.  Even though Illinois is notorious for its flat, flat, roads it was so open that i got to see so many rays shine through the clouds to the ground.  It was beautiful.  I also go to drive during the sunset.   Let me tell you, the sunset couldn't have been painted more beautifully.

The drive should have taken about 5 hours and 45 minutes but it ended up taking 7 hours and 15 minutes to make the trip.  I am glad that God put the many stops in my way, otherwise I would not have gotten to witness some of his amazing beauty.  As I was driving I could look out across the fields and/or the plains and see the sun rays or I could see the sunset in bright pink and blue colors.

In Psalm 8, David talks about how God created the Earth and the universe and everything else and how he put us humans in charge of taking care of such creations.  This is a heavy load!  I do not believe that God would have put us in charge if he did not feel that we could take on the burden.  Now I am not the most reliable when it comes to recycling, or cleaning up the road, But I do try to do my best at making sure that I use up less energy, that I don't waste food, and that I support causes that take of the Earth as much as I can.  My challenge to all of you is to to play your part in taking care of God's beautiful creation.  If you live in Illinois, I can understand how much you hate the roads when traveling, but remember that there are other roads out there with beautiful scenery to view.

I hope that you enjoyed this blog, it was kind of rough I know, but it is what God put on my heart for tonight.  Again, thanks for reading, and don't forget to spread the Jesus!

Money Makes the World Go Round...NOT!

WOW!  Today has been a busy day!  I woke up and did some cleaning.  My good friend Robbie came over for some lunch (we grilled), then after he left I ran to Marion which is about 20mins from Carbondale to pick up the gift I am giving my friends for their wedding.  I decided to relax at my apartment for a little while and then went over to Kohls to buy clothes for the wedding and then stopped by Walmart to a new blender because mine was ruined.  By this time my roommate had come home and began to pack his things because he is moving out on Thursday night so I helped with that and realized that some of the kitchen stuff belonged to him!  So I ran back to Walmart to pick up the few things that he would be taking with him plus I picked up some groceries.  As you can tell I did a lot of shopping today, I didn't realize how much shopping I had done until I went to go check out and my card was denied.  Now I knew that I had plenty of money on the card and that it should not have been denied.  After a brief thought, I realized that after buying this stuff my card would have reached my limit and then some.

So I left my stuff there and ran to my apartment to get my checkbook.  I also wanted to stop by an ATM to make sure that I wasn't mistaking about my financial situation.  I stop at a gas station...and the ATM is out of receipt tape.  As I am driving across the street to the other ATM i stop and realize how upset I was getting about this money situation, and how I am going WAY OUT OF MY WAY to figure out about my finances.  Then I realized that I was focusing too much on my money and my materials that I lost focus on God.

I admit, it is nice to have materials, some are necessary to live like food and water.  Then there are things that keep us entertained like games and movies.  The bottom line is...when I die...these materials are going to mean nothing to me.  I have been blessed with a financial supporting family that allows me to buy things I need and things I want.  This does not mean I should go blow it on something because I can.  It's hard sometimes but it is worth it to take some time to put away the games, turn off the TV, and just focus on God.  In the end your relationship with him is all that matters.

So remember, money may make it possible to survive in the world, but we wouldn't have any of it if God did love us enough to give it to us.  Thank you for reading this blog.  If you haven't already, please follow my blog and become a member.  I also want to hear what you have to say, so please leave me your thoughts.  Thanks again!

GOD BLESS!

Every Step I Take I Take In You

So I have been trying to lose some weight to get back into shape and to fit into my clothes for teaching that I bought last year.  Last night I went on a run and it went pretty well.  I did about two miles in 17mins.  That is an improvement since I last ran before summer started.  Anyway I thought that it would be fun to go on another run.  Now usually I run with my iPod giving me some tunes to run with, however, I could not find the arm band I use to hold it so I don't have to carry it.  So, tonight I decided to just run without it and see how it would go.

During my run I couldn't get the song, Every Move I Make, out of my head.  I sang it to myself practically my entire run.  And it got me thinking about how God gave me this body, this temple of his, to take care of.  It made me feel good about my run and gave me motivation to continue with my run.  So I found God in "every step" I took while I was on my run this evening.

If you have never heard the song, Every Move I Make, before, you should definitely take a look at it.  It has an excellent message about seeing God in everything you see.  Hmm?  Maybe that should be my blog's theme song.  I wonder if there is a way to make that happen.  Well, I will have to do some investigating on that.  Thanks for reading my blog.  Please share this with your friends.  I would like to keep this blog growing like my love for Jesus is growing.

GOD BLESS!

Welcome to My God Moments!

Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my blog.  My goal is to post blogs about the different God moments that I come across.  I have seen God in many things from people to children's literature.  I feel led to share these moments with others in hopes that I will help at least one person see God in a new way.

So today was a busy day.  I woke up this morning with a headache.  After taking some medicine, and doing some cleaning around my apartment, the headache final took its leave.  Later on, I discovered that Netflix had episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers available on streaming and let me tell you my inner child leaped up and began reliving the days of putty patrol and zords.  It was a great and relaxing time.  I was fortunate to have had the company of a few friends from an SIUC campus ministry over for some pizza and conversation which later led to the viewing of various Hey Arnold! episodes.

It was such a refreshing time and I got to get to know these amazing people better than I had before.  You see I am involved with the Wesley Foundation at SIUC. Wesley is a Methodist student center where we come on a daily basis to hang out, learn about God, and become better leaders in the church.  My guests are involved in a different campus ministry, Intervarsity, so we do not get a lot of fellowship time during the school year. During our time together we learned more about each other, and even though we are active in different ministries, we were able to find a way for us to bond through our love for God.  They asked me if I would be interested in playing trumpet for their worship band.  I am praying about this because I have been wanting to get my old trumpet out of the closet and make music with it.  This could potentially be an answered prayer, but I want to make sure it is what I am to do.  What are your thoughts?

This was an excellent God moment to experience.  Well, It is well past my bed time and I have plans to reunite with some other friends tomorrow.  Thanks again for reading my blog, I hope to hear from you soon!

GOD BLESS!
